Memorandum on the position and salaries of

Women Teachers in Hong Kong.

35-

A.

In the Education Department in Hong Kong there are

about the same number of women as of men teachers (approx

There are five super-scale posts for men, the 34).

headships of Queen's and King's Colleges and three inspectorships, and the men are asking for the headship

of the Central British School to be made super-scale

post also. For the women there is one super-scale post only, the headship of Belilios Public School for Chinese girls. There is no woman inspector in Hong Kong in spite of the fact that the women teachers have petitioned the Government three times in the past seven years to appoint one. The urgent need for a woman inspector should be obvious, if it is realised that the following long list of girls' schools, each with a large number of pupils are

all inspected entirely by men.
